NYC law to Crisis Pregnancy Centers: tell your patrons to go to Planned Parenthood

(Manhattan Declaration) - A new law in New York City requires pro-life pregnancy care centers to post a sign telling people if they have a medical professional on staff and that they would be better served going to another facility, like a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic.

The rationale for the law was that pregnant women are better served by medical professionals than those who believe in the sanctity of life and would not recommend abortion. Not surprisingly, Planned Parenthood supported this bill.

As reported by LifeSiteNews.com: “The law requires non-medical, pro-life ‘pregnancy services centers’ to inform women with notices posted in both English and Spanish whether they have a licensed medical provider on staff. The signs would also state that the city’s Health Department encourages women to seek help from a licensed medical provider if the center does not have one on staff. It also requires the pro-life centers to post on signs and ads whether they provide referrals for abortion, “emergency contraception,” and prenatal care. The notices are required both for the pregnancy centers’ facilities and on their advertizing – in a size and font to be determined by city authorities.”

Our friends over at the Alliance Defense Fund have reacted to this unjust bill by filing suit against New York City.

“Pregnancy centers, which offer real help and hope to women, shouldn’t be punished by political allies of the abortion industry,” said ADF Legal Counsel Matt Bowman. “Attacks on pregnancy centers are an ideologically motivated attempt to distract from the growing national scandals in the abortion industry. For years, abortionists have preyed on women and girls for profit. Now pro-abortion politicians are trying to give women fewer choices.”

Perhaps pro-abortion advocates cannot imagine women who actually want to keep her baby. Perhaps pro-abortion advocates care nothing for justice or fairness, which this law obviously violates. Perhaps pro-abortion advocates care nothing for real choice. Either way, this law should be overturned immediately so that women will not be subjected to manipulation or just one set of so-called options.

Pregnant women should go to a licensed medical provider. This is a women's health issue. Nothing about this law influences women to have abortions. Many of these centers try to represent themselves as actual medical facilities, when in actuality they are not. Furthermore, these centers have been caught numerous times providing women with false medical information. These centers provide pro-life counseling and this is what they should say they do. Another question is why do they try and falsely represent themselves to begin with? Some have even claimed to offer abortions. I’m not sure how lying to women in any way works in their favor. This law does not push women into Planned Parenthood; it helps them receive proper care from a medical provider. Alongside proper medical care women can reach out to counseling centers, churches etc to get counseling. But bottom line these centers shouldn’t be claiming to be something they are not and they shouldn’t have a problem with being honest to mothers about what services they provide.

Do you mind providing evidence that these pregnancy care centers have been misleading pregnant women?

Also, Planned Parenthood has been exposed with video evidence to be complicit in the aiding and abetting in the sex trafficking of young women. So the evidence is clear that they have been misleading. Do you also suggest that every abortion provider display "We do not offer counseling or emotional help before or after your abortion. We also on extremely rare occasion provider adoption services--but if you are a young girl, we will likely pressure you to have an abortion, as we have been proven to do"?

I look forward to your answer.

There have been several court cases including one against Fargo Women’s Health and another against the Center for Unplanned Pregnancy. In both cases the court found the centers were using false advertising (not only through advertisements but through misleading names ie “health center”) to lure women in. Many more have settled out of court. Many were also found to be providing pregnancy tests without a license. Many women have also come out against the centers claiming they were given false information. They have been accused of an array of things, including preventing women from seeing the results of their pregnancy test until they agreed to forgo abortion, to mishandling the women etc. Are all of these accusations true? There is no way to know. But according to the court system many were found true beyond reasonable doubt.

Still my question remains, if they are doing no wrong, then why do they care if a sign is hung describing the nature of their work? If they have nothing to hide, then what’s the issue?

The article was about a specific law in NY regarding these pregnancy crisis centers. I’m sure people could name other organizations that use false advertising as well but I don’t attempt to address them all here. On Planned Parenthood, yes I am aware that one time one Planned Parenthood was found to have one corrupt employee. However, I do not believe Planned Parenthood provides false advertising. Also correct they are not a counseling service they are a medical facility. They do provide women with information on counseling services and social workers, as well as adoption agencies, but they themselves are not fully staffed with psychologists etc. In the past 2 months one of my close friends sought the medical advice (note medical) of a Planned Parenthood. They confirmed her pregnancy and helped her determine the next medical steps for keeping and not keeping the child. They also set her up with a social worker and made her appointment at a adoption agency of her choice that she picked out of the packet they provided her on different adoption agencies (which she went to). They also discussed and explained to her the different types of adoptions, open, closed etc. I know there are lots of stories where women did not receive these services and if a court case was presented, and a jury found them true, maybe a sign like you wish could be put in up in Planned Parenthood buildings as well. For now, I’m just glad that women receive clear information on what pregnancy crisis centers really do.

Will, sorry my comment went on so long! Apparently I'm very long winded today. I hoped that help answer some of your questions.

I'm a Registered Nurse. Formerly, I favored abortion; now, I oppose abortion for numerous reasons, not the least of which is because of my faith. As a student, I witnessed an abortion. It is my opinion that there are more and better arguments against the procedure than for it.

As it is now, abortion is an issue of eugenics. Even statistics from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute demonstrate as much.

It is my considered opinion that the procedure will again come before the SCOTUS, but as a civil rights issue based upon the unique DNA of the unborn human being still growing in it's mother's womb. In essence, it will be based upon the establishment of personhood, which again, will be based upon DNA evidence. Thus, it cannot ever be considered an "option" to cease such life without the consent of the governed, especially and particularly since it has committed no crime against the state, or another human being - in essence, an innocent.
